Vieux Farka Touré + Odonata

Known as “The Hendrix of the Sahara,” Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké, Mali, in 1981 and is the son of legendary guitarist All Farka Toure. Originally trained in percussion, Vieux secretly turned to guitar in 2001, earning his father’s blessing shortly before Ali’s passing. His 2007 debut honored that legacy, while later albums – including Fondo, The Secret, and Les Racines – established his own boundary-pushing style rooted in desert blues, rock, and global influences. A dynamic live performer, Vieux has collaborated with artists like Toumani Diabate, Khruangbin, Idan Raichel, and Dave Matthews, earning worldwide acclaim. Beyond music, he founded Amahrec Sahel and directs the Ali Farka Touré Foundation to support cultural preservation and humanitarian work in Mali.
